A Dance, A Prayer

The sun streamed through the colored glass
And danced across the empty pews,
Playing tag with the holy shadows
While the organ stood – less amused.

In the midst of this godly performance
Sat a figure bending forth in prayer,
Mindless of the play around her
While she was quietly sitting there.

Paused…the light formed a halo about her
Then a tear rolled down her cheek,
‘Thank you, Lord, for listening
Life is seeming a little less bleak’.

She spoke in soft, sweet whispers
‘I know, Lord, your presence is near –
I feel your strength within me –
your Spirit enfolds me here’.

The light and shadows heard her
The glad dance began again,
In joyful praise for the figure

who was blessed by God’s gentle hand.
