Little moments

She plucked a flower from the ground,
And pushed it in my hand –
The biggest smile upon her face,
From ear to ear it spanned!

Her arms reached up to hug me,
Folded tightly ‘round my neck –
Little moments just like these,
One can never, ever forget!

This is another in a series of Lenten daily poems I am writing.

She brought me flowers

I was outdoors with my 2-year-old granddaughter yesterday. She brought me flowers. “Here, Grammy. Flowers.” I replied: “They are beautiful! Can you show me where you got them?”

She took me by the hand and led me to the driveway. Right there between the black edges of the asphalt and the white of the snow, in the dark earth between, crocuses were blooming. What a reminder of God’s gifts!

You & Me

Lord, please come and sit beside me,
For just a moment or two,
Linger with me and listen,
What I’d like to share with you.
Thank you, Lord, from all my heart,
For all the loving care you give,
To family, self and others,
All through  the days we live.
Each sweet & sour point in time,
No matter where we are,
You are close as a whisper,
Right next to our breaking hearts.
Thank you, Lord, for sitting here,
A communion breath with  you,
My prayer each day is that your Light,
Continues to shine through…me.

A Dance, A Prayer

The sun streamed through the colored glass
And danced across the empty pews,
Playing tag with the holy shadows
While the organ stood – less amused.

In the midst of this godly performance
Sat a figure bending forth in prayer,
Mindless of the play around her
While she was quietly sitting there.

Paused…the light formed a halo about her
Then a tear rolled down her cheek,
‘Thank you, Lord, for listening
Life is seeming a little less bleak’.

She spoke in soft, sweet whispers
‘I know, Lord, your presence is near –
I feel your strength within me –
your Spirit enfolds me here’.

The light and shadows heard her
The glad dance began again,
In joyful praise for the figure

who was blessed by God’s gentle hand.

Spring is coming

Winter is waning, day by day,
With the sun shining high above,
Birds are singing, bunnies playing,
Good-bye, Dear Winter! We’ve had enough!
The snowman’s melting to the ground,
The crocuses are bursting through…
Our hearts seem lighter, our days even brighter,
Knowing that spring will arrive soon!

A bench

Lenten discipline – a poem a day. Here is another…

Walking through the woods one day,
I came across a bench,
The view was near the water,
With the mountains to the west.

I thought how nice a place to be,
That bench – just right for two,
Then they could look together
At God’s panoramic view.

Again my walk took me by that place,
It warmed my heart to see,
A gray-haired couple sitting there,
As God intended it to be.
A story shared on the bench that day
In the quiet of a winter woods,
God’s Spirit there, wrapping them
In the blanket of God’s love.

Abiding

My discipline this Lent is to write a poem each day – however the Spirit speaks to me. I share this one.

The angel came and held her
Close in her arms so tight,
Day by day, each hour
Well into the darkening night.

The family gathered ‘round her
Tears flowing down their face,
About to lose their mother
To the One who offers grace.

Dawn rose above the mountain
The night had turned to day,
They knew the angel had carried
Their loved one to a place away.No tears, dear ones…God whispered
She abides in Heaven with me,
Yet she will be with you for always
In your memories and hearts, you’ll see
.
